Irish Chippendale Style Armchair

Ref# DPTR-4808
A robust example of a Chippendale style armchair of Irish origin hailing from the westerly shores of Lough Neagh, county Tyrone.

As is often the case with carpenter’s chairs of this nature the maker has endeavoured to replicate a finer style within the constraints of their own ability, materials and environment. The splat in particular exhibits this with its naïve and stylised quatrefoil and vertical perforations.

The joints are pegged which stand proud to the eye, a result of the shrinking of the surrounding timber.

Constructed of ash/oak in historic brown paint, the original coat of black is exposed in places.

In sound usable condition.

Irish, circa 1850.
